Don't waste time, effort and resources on purely social events aimed at people outside the church. They can get a social life elsewhere! General interest events and things for fun are a first step making the church building more accessible to people outside - although you may need to go one step further back and arrange some activities outside of the church - or indeed just joing other secular interest groups so that you have friends outside of the church. Social events are good but sometimes give them a Christian twist in some way. But don't just reinforce people's worst suspicions by using culturally inappropriate material. Your Christian content may be as simple as having a donation bowl out for a Christian charity with a small display about their work, modern Christian posters on the wall, a prayer request book, Bible and candle on a table and two or three minutes of quiet at the end for people to think, meditate or pray. Pitch it appropriately for whoever is there.
And above all - don’t confuse outreach with fund-raising!!!
